Even animals can suffer from mental illness as depicted in this cartoon. These bears actually started out as black bears. However, years of  being held captive in their tiny living space in the zoo, has turned their fur white, and caused them to become deeply depressed.  Animals belong in their natural wilderness habitat, not locked up and sentenced to a lifetime of incarceration for the amusement of us  humans.

The idea for this one morphed into a cartoon from  funny story a friend of my told me about. He was 19 years old, and he’d just left a pub after having a few beers after work with the guys. (The drinking age is 19 up here in Canada)

He was motoring along the highway when a police car pulled up behind him and turned on his flashers. Since he already had an DUI case pending, he decided to just pull over and jump in the back seat and pretend he was asleep. I know that sounds stupid, but in his 19 year old mind, he thought that if he acted like he was unconscious, the cops wouldn’t be able to take a proper breath sample.

Upon pulling him over the officers were pretty sure he was faking, so they decided to employ some rather unorthodox techniques in order to bring him around. First they pulled individual hairs  out of his head. After he was able to withstand that test, they decided to try something more drastic…yep the old nipple twist or “Purple Nurple” as we used to call it. While he was able to contain himself for an admirable amount of time, he could only take it for so long before he finally snapped. The funny thing is that after going through  all that torture he actually blew under the limit.
